About

I kept seeing the same problem from different rooms.

Gabriel Bonifield

I’m Gabriel Bonifield, founder of Symmorphy.

For years, I studied innovation systems while also spending time around the people trying to shape them: funders, ecosystem builders, institutions, researchers, and organizations deciding where to place resources and attention.

One question kept following me:

Why do promising technologies get stuck between invention and widespread use?

There was rarely one answer.

The explanation might sit partly in the research, partly in who was funding it, partly in regulation, infrastructure, institutional capacity, market conditions, or the organizations trying to move it forward.

Sometimes the obstacle was obvious.

Often it was distributed across the system.

And sometimes the system was working exactly as designed for the actors already dominant within it.

The information existed. The picture did not.

Research databases could tell me what had been published.

Funding databases could tell me who received money.

Directories could tell me which organizations existed.

Policy sources could tell me what rules applied.

But those pieces were usually examined separately.

That made it difficult to answer the questions that actually mattered:

What is constraining progress?

Which relationships are decisive?

Where is evidence strong, weak, or contradictory?

What would have to change for something promising to move forward?

That is why I built Symmorphy.

Symmorphy is built to hold these parts of the innovation landscape together, rather than examine them in isolation.

It is built to show how organizations, technologies, solutions, institutions, capital, policy, evidence, and constraints interact over time, so the reasons progress accelerates, stalls, or changes direction are easier to see.

The goal is not to reduce complexity to a score.

It is to make the system legible enough to make better decisions and show pathways to change the system itself.

Why Symmorphy

Decisions are better made with the whole system in view.

Symmorphy is built for people deciding what to build, fund, support, evaluate, or change next.
